A Harvest Thanksgiving Service on Friday evening 13th
October commenced a weekend of harvest celebration at
Ballinderry Parish Church. The church was beautifully decorated
for the occasion by Mrs Florence Kidd and many members of the
congregation. The rector, the Rev Canon Ernest Harris led the
service and the guest speaker was the Rev Alan McCann, rector of
Woodburn Parish, Carrickfergus. Robert Yarr - Organist and the
Ballinderry Parish Church choir led the praise. The harvest
hymns were, Praise to the Lord, the Almighty; Great is thy
faithfulness; We plough the fields and scatter; and Holy is the
seed-time. The anthem was, God is Great.
Referring to the story of the rich fool as recorded in Luke
12, Mr McCann spoke of the priorities of life and the importance
of thanking God for what we have received and stop thinking
about ourselves saying that, God should be the first thought.
Explaining that we need to find our value and be rich before
God, he emphasised the importance of planning for the moment
when God calls so that we will hear the words, well done good
and faithful servant and not you fool.
The Rev Angus McCullough, minister of Magheragall
Presbyterian Church was the guest speaker at the harvest service
on Sunday morning. The evening service commenced with community
hymn singing at 6.45pm and the guest speaker was the Rev William
Orr, curate of Shankill Parish, Lurgan.
