Candlelight at First Lisburn Presbyterian Church on Sunday 24th
December (Christmas Eve).
A service of Nine Lessons and Carols by Candlelight was held in
First Lisburn Presbyterian Church on Sunday 24th December
(Christmas Eve). The minister, the Rev John Brackenridge welcomed the large
congregation and thanked all who took part after which the
service continued unannounced. Tom Whyte (Director of Music) and
the Church Choir led the festive praise, the Carols were: Angels
from the realms of glory, Once in royal David�s City, Hark the
herald Angels sing, Still the night, O little town of Bethlehem
and O come, all ye faithful. The anthems were: Cradle Song, Boy
Child (Soloist - Heather McCluskey), Still of the Evening, Sing
Gloria Hodie, O Holy Night (Soloist Nick Parke). The nine lessons were: Genesis 3 read by Perry Reid - God
promises to sinful Adam that he has lost the life of Paradise
and that his seed will bruise the serpent�s head; Genesis 22
read by Colin McKay - God promises faithful Abraham that in his
seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; Isaiah 9: 2,
6 & 7 read by Dr Ian McDougall - Christ�s birth and Kingdom are
foretold by the Prophet Isaiah; Isaiah 11 read by Simon Watt -
The peace that Christ will bring is foreshown, St Luke 1:26-38
read by Ashleigh Bustard - The angel Gabriel announces the
coming of Christ; St Luke 2:8-16 read by Matt Craig - St Luke
tells of Christ�s holy birth; St Luke 2:8-16 read by Karin
Finlay - The shepherds go to the manger; Matthew 2:1-11 read by
Sonya McIlmoyle - The wise men are led by the star to Jesus;
John Chapter 1:1 -14 read by Rev John Brackenridge - St John
unfolds the mystery of the incarnation. Also taking part were Roy Faulkner (Trumpet), Nick Parke
(Soloist), Keith McAlister (Accompanist). Ros Reid and Desmond
Topping were responsible for the communications & sound. After the service, some seasonal refreshments prepared by
Catering Convener Margaret McIlmoyle and her team, were served
in the Church Hall.
