City centre ministers present concert proceeds to
Christian Aid and local Inter-Church work
Lisburn City Centre Ministers presented
proceeds from last years Carols In the City concert to
representatives from Christian Aid and the Lisburn Inter-Church
Sunday School and Young Adults Group on Thursday 9th
March 2006 in the Lisburn Cathedral Rectory. The
Carols In the City
concert
organised by the Lisburn City Centre Ministers Fellowship
was held
in the Lagan Valley Island on
Wednesday 14th December 2005 and featured Garvey
Silver Band; choirs form Brownlee Primary School, St. Aloysius
Primary School, Friends School and a
Folk Group from St. Patricks
Church. The guest speaker was former
Presbyterian Moderator - Dr. Ken Newell.
The Rev. Canon George Irwin - (Rector of
St. Marks Church - Ballymacash) Chairman of the Lisburn
Christian Aid Committee and Lorraine Foster and Sara
Blakely - Lisburn Inter-Church Sunday School and Young Adults
Group, each received a cheque for 500 from the Lisburn City
Centre Ministers.
Christian Aid was founded in 1945 in
response to the need for reconstruction after the Second World
War and the focus moved to include famine relief and world
development; they celebrated their 60th Anniversary
last year. The Lisburn Christian Aid Committee serve lunches
every Tuesday from 11.30am to 2.00pm in First Lisburn Church
Hall and over the last year alone, this fundraising work has
raised over 5000. So, the next Tuesday (Market Day) that you
are in Lisburn, why not drop in to First Lisburn Church Hall and
have a lovely lunch for the modest sum of 3.00.
Lisburn Inter-Church Sunday School and
Young Adults Group meet each Sunday afternoon in Harmony Hill
Presbyterian Church. The Co-ordinator is Lorraine Foster and
the teachers are Heather Knox, Maureen Clynes and Pamela
McElhinney. Their aims are to give children with learning
disabilities the opportunity to praise and worship God in a
simple and joyful manner and to give young adults with a
learning disability the opportunity to participate in Bible
Study and Praise at a more advanced level. Lorraine Foster
says, The money received will go towards the cost of our bus.
The bus and driver is supplied by Disability Action and holds 14
people - 2 escorts and 12 members including one wheelchair user.
Without the bus members would not be able to get to our Sunday
School on a regular basis so we are grateful for this very kind
donation from the City Centre Ministers.
