Beautiful summer
weather added to the idyllic setting for a Garden Party held in
the grounds of Kilwarlin
Moravian Church on Saturday afternoon 10th
June. Pipers Andrew Millen and Michael Woods piped in the start
of the event, which was opened by Mrs Maureen Patton assisted by
the Minister, the Rev Paul Holdsworth and the Chairman Fred
Walsh. Mrs Patton recalled fond memories of living at
Ballyknock and visiting the garden party with her mother -
Rosena Dillon and sisters Isobel and Betty. She said that she
was glad that nothing had changed and went on to say that her
most recent acquisition from the church was Suzanne Law, her
daughter-in-law. Fred Walsh, now a member of St Pauls Parish,
Lisburn, was a member of Kilwarlin Church and Sunday School
during his childhood days. He lived on the Puddleduck Road and
with no cars in those days he recalled the long walk to church
and many happy times spent rolling down the large mound in the
church grounds.
After the
official opening, many people enjoyed Cream Teas and Strawberry
and Cream either in the church hall or at tables in the garden.
There were a variety of cakes, plants, crafts and book stalls
and a Treasure Hunt for children. Brian Thompson and Billy
Gibson provided live musical entertainment with a host of foot
tapping well-known songs adding to a great day of family fun and
fellowship. The church, which was open for visitors, was built
in 1835 on the site of the original church built in
1755.
