The Island Hall was filled on Friday 5th
May for Kids Alive, a childrens event called Hakuna Matata
for primary school children aged 7 11. Kids Alive, is part of
the Crown Jesus Ministries initiative for Lisburn and was
co-ordinated by Karen Webb of the Church Army, supported by
Captain John ONeill also of the Church Army and a team from the
local churches.
John ONeill assisted by Karen Webb -
Puppets Inc., brought the evening to a spectacular start as they
introduced one of their friends (Broccoli Spears - Puppet) to
the young audience and set the scene for the evening. Puppets
Inc., a puppet team from Lisburn Cathedral consisting of Karen
Webb and seven young people aged 10 - 14, performed a song
entitled - Dont worry, trust Jesus, a rewrite of an old pop
song, which was greatly appreciated. Throughout the evening the
worship was led by Karen Bowden and a praise band from Railway
Street Presbyterian Church. The Crown Jesus Ministry dance team
generated a lot of energy with the audience by encouraging all
of the kids to participate in learning how to put body movement
and actions to a contemporary Christian song.
The guest speaker was the Rev. David Bruce
- Regional Secretary of Scripture Union in Britain and Ireland.
In the main address, David, with the assistance of Kim Harshaw
and ten year old Caroline Webb, used an elaborate computer
system called the Biometric Instrument Height Adjuster (BIH) to
prove that even modern equipment and computer technology cant
add to your height as recorded in his text, You cant add a day
to your life, or an inch to your stature. He explained the
importance of Seeking first the Kingdom of God and His
righteousness and said that you must put God first, because God
wants to be No. 1 in your life.
John ONeill assisted by Philip Kerr, Laura
Best and Keith Mitchell (C.J.M.) involved the whole crowd of
young people in several lively games entitled - Life is the
name of the game.
Accompanied by Beverly Whyte with James
Toal and Niall Hilary on African drums, Melanie Hilary - Lisburn
Christian Fellowship, led the singing of the memory verse from
John 14 v 1: Jesus said, dont let your heart be troubled,
trust in God, trust also in Me.
Captain John ONeill and Karen Webb,
brought a great evening to a close in a discussion with puppet -
Broccoli Spears concluding that whatever we think of ourselves,
God thinks we are all great and that everyone of us is really
special to Him, which is central to the Good News of Jesus and
the Christian Faith.
