THE Hillsborough Parish Church bell-ringers
have won the all Ireland bell-ringing contest at St Canice's
Cathedral, Kilkenny.
Led by team captain Simon Walker, they bested
teams from the length and breadth of Ireland including
Carrickfergus, Skibereen, Limerick, Dublin and Kilkenny itself.
A valuable member of the team was Rachel
McIlwrath, a Lisburn teacher who only took up ringing in Ireland
in 2003, following a Star report of Hillsborough's last victory
in 2003.
The team also won the NI District annual
'striking' contest, which took place in Ballymena at Easter.
