Last weeks Jesus is Alive event in the
Lagan Valley Island was the last in a series of Christian
outreach events organised by Crown Jesus Ministries in the
Lisburn area. Since January, the team of evangelists have been
working with the support of 20 local churches and their outreach
work has been wide spread serving both the church and the
community.
The final event, which was central to the
teams outreach, was held on Monday 22nd, Tuesday 23rd
and Wednesday 24th May. Local musicians led the
praise and the Crown Jesus Ministries team presented the Gospel
in a powerful yet relevant way. On Monday evening the guest was
Andrew Trimble, Ulster & Ireland Rugby International and on
Tuesday evening the guests were Heather and Judith McClaren,
Teachers in Integrated Education. The guests on Wednesday
evening were Lisburn Fire-fighters - Rab Blair, Jeff Anderson
and Brian Moore. In an interview with the Rev Andrew Thompson
entitled Rescue Me they spoke about what it is like to be a
Christian in the Fire and Rescue Service. Brian explained that
deaths and fatalities are part of the job, but as a Christian he
has something to fall back. Jeff spoke about the assurance of
knowing that as a Christian fire-fighter, even in dangerous
situations, there is always someone with you and watching over
you. Rab spoke about his involvement with Firefighters for
Christ and about the organisations aim to reach fire-fighters
worldwide for Christ. Andrew closed the interview by thanking
them for taking part and commended them for the dangerous work
they do for our community.
David Murphy from Crown Jesus Ministries
and Belfast fire-fighter Ian Morrow performed a sketch showing a
Snatch Rescue. A video presentation highlighted the serious and
dangerous work of fire-fighters in saving lives. The horrific
fire scenes in the film were intermingled with even more
horrific scenes of the crucifixion showing the pain and agony of
the suffering Jesus who died on the cross for our sins.
In his address, fire-fighter Keith Mitchell
from Crown Jesus Ministries asked the question, Are you ready
to meet your maker? Using a farmers snare he illustrated how
a fox caught in the snare can go round in circles, but is going
nowhere. Quoting Hebrews 12 v 1 he explained that sin ensnares
us and went on to say that we are born in sin and that only
Jesus can free us from its snare. Keith spoke about a Combi
Tool used by fire-fighters to rescue people from crashed cars
and other accidents. Using a large eight-foot high wooden
cross, he pointed out that the cross was the Combi Tool for the
Christian and was the only means of getting out of the snare of
sin. He concluded, Have you got out of the snare of sin?
and repeated his opening question are you ready to meet your
maker? Everyone in the auditorium joined hands as Keith prayed
that LisBURN would BURN with prayer
to save souls from the snare of sin, ensuring that everyone
is ready to meet their maker.
