The Mayor - Councillor Trevor Lunn and the Mayoress - Mrs Laureen Lunn were the special guests at morning worship in Lisburn Christian Fellowship last Sunday (17th December).

Pastor George Hilary conducted the service with participation from Janette McKnight who interviewed Amarilis Thompson (Dominican Republic) and Susan Alexander (India) both of whom recently moved to live in Lisburn. Janette asked about how they were received as strangers to Lisburn and how we as a church can help to make them feel welcome.

Pastor Hilary welcomed the congregation and gave a special welcome to the Mayor and Mayoress. The Mayor read the Scripture lesson from Matthew 2: 13-23. In his address Mr Hilary took as his text Leviticus 19: 33-34 and spoke of a Biblical INSTRUCTION not to mistreat the strangers living in our midst; an ATTITUDE to love them as ourselves and a REASON to do so, because Israel had been strangers for many years in Eygpt.

Mark Wilkinson and the LCF Worship Band led the praise. The congregational hymns were Give thanks to the Lord, O come all ye faithfull, Holy One, I can only imagine and In Christ alone. Children from the Popcorn Club sang God youre good to me. Also taking part in the service were Jessica Thompson on harp who played a selection of carols and Alistair Cousins who produced an interesting powerpoint presentation entitled Diversity showing the diversity in all creation - people, culture, cities, food, animals, birds etc.

The Mayor thanked Pastor Hilary for his welcome and in bringing the greetings of Lisburn City Council, he picked up the Pastors Biblical instruction not to mistreat the strangers living in our midst and spoke about his Mayoral Theme to make Lisburn a City for everyone and the need to embrace diversity. He also spoke about his recent visits to several churches in the Lisburn area and wished Pastor George Hilary and members of Lisburn Christian Fellowship every success as a congregation. He concluded by wishing everyone a happy Christmas and a prosperous and peaceful New Year.
