The Mayor - Councillor Trevor Lunn and the Mayoress - Mrs
Laureen Lunn were the special guests at morning worship in
Lambeg Baptist Church last Sunday (22nd October).
Church secretary George Allen led the service and welcomed the
Mayor, Mayoress and the guest speaker John Miller, an elder from
Moira Baptist Church. During his address John, a former OMF
missionary in Malaysia and Singapore, spoke about worshipping at
the feet of Jesus just like Mary did when He visited the home of
Mary and Martha prior to His death on the cross. Paul McComiskey
on keyboard and a group of musicians and vocalists from the
congregation led the praise.
George Allen, Paul McComiskey, Ivan Adair and David Black
from Lambeg Baptist Church, Albert Smylie from Lisburn
Baptist, David Montgomery from Moira Baptist, Nigel Cameron
from Strandtown Baptist and Andrew Herron from Baptist
Missions France, are members of the music group Slemish.
During Monday 10th to Tuesday 16th October they played five
concerts in the Puertollano region of Spain at the invitation
of Belfast Missionaries Jonathan and Susan Sanlon who are
currently working with UFM in that area. At each concert
they played Irish ballads and new Irish Hymns finishing off
with a Gospel video presentation. Prior to leaving for
Spain, the Lisburn Mayor provided them with Lisburn City
Council plaques, which they presented to the Minister of
Culture of the areas they played in. In return they were
presented with a book, ceramic plate and a picture, which
George Allen subsequently presented to the Lisburn Mayor and
Mayoress during their visit to Lambeg Baptist Church last
Sunday morning.
Following the presentation the Mayor spoke of the warm
welcome he had received at all the Lisburn churches he had
visited within the past few weeks. He brought the greetings and
best wishes of Lisburn City Council and thanked them for their
invitation.
Lambeg Baptist Church, who currently has a vacancy for a
pastor, will welcome Mr Trevor Lennon as their new Pastor at a
Service of Induction in the Worship Centre of Belfast Bible
College on Friday 3rd November 2006.
