The Mayor - Councillor Trevor Lunn and the Mayoress - Mrs Laureen Lunn were the special guests at an all age worship service in Christ Church Parish, Lisburn, last Sunday morning (10th December), the second Sunday in advent.  The Rector, the Rev Paul Dundas conducted the service assisted by the Curate, the Rev Diane Matchett.

Mr Dundas welcomed everyone and gave a special welcome to the Mayor and Mayoress.  In response, the Mayor thanked Mr Dundas for his welcome and in bringing the greetings of Lisburn City Council, spoke about his visits to several churches in the Lisburn area and about his Mayoral Theme to make Lisburn a City for everyone and the need to embrace diversity.  He wished the Rector and the parishioners every success as a parish and concluded by wishing everyone a merry Christmas and a happy new year.

The Mayor read the Scripture lesson from Matthew 25 v 31-40.  In his address Mr Dundas took as his text the words of Jesus, I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.  Speaking about the coming of Jesus as our Saviour and in particular about when he will come again as Judge, he explained that we will give an account of our lives and emphasised the need to live a faith that shows in order to be assured of the inheritance he has promised.  He used the words from Matthew 25 which speak of a practical faith:  For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.

Sonia Black and the Parishs praise group Salt led the praise. The congregational hymns included Wonderful Lord, wonderful God and There is a higher throne.
