Michele Evans, a member of Legacurry
Presbyterian Church, now on final furlough from Malawi
was the guest speaker at the morning service in Railway
Street Presbyterian Church on Sunday 23rd April
2006. During the children's spot, Ruth Nelson interviewed
Michele about school life in Malawi where she was a teacher in
Bandawe School near Lake Malawi. In the main address, Michele
used a Powerpoint presentation to show pictures of the school
and of some of the children that she taught. She explained the
hardships encountered by some of the local children, many of
whom have been affected by the AIDS epidemic in Africa. Some
have to work so hard at home that they do not have enough time
to do school work. Michele outlined how even modest donations
from the UK have been greatly used to enhance the lives of such
people in Malawi. Michele now hopes to teach English as a
foreign language, probably in England.
