Sr
Patsy Holdsworth, took her first Harvest Service as the new
Student Minister of Ballinderry Moravian Church last Sunday
morning (24th September). The historic old country
church, built in
1836 was beautifully decorated for the occasion. Instead
of the usual harvest decoration using sheaves of corn, the
tradition at this church for over half a century has been to
arrange the corn in a crisscross display around the front of the
pulpit.
In her address Sr Holdsworth said that harvest is a real time
of celebration during which we should remember to look after our
neighbours. We should remember the parable of the mustard seed,
a small seed that grows tall and strong. The message of the
Kingdom of God is like this, we must plant the seed of God in
peoples lives so it will grow and flourish.
Maire Napier presided at the organ and the
harvest hymns included, All things Bright and Beautiful and
with a church so beautifully decorated, it really was a case of
- All things bright and beautiful. Pretty young sisters -
Olivia Black (age 6) and Sophie Black (age 5) further
added to the beauty of the church with their very own floral
contribution perhaps also showing that just like the small
mustard seed, their small floral contributions helped to create
a large and magnificent floral display.
Sr Holdsworths husband, the Rev Paul Holdsworth, minister of
Kilwarlin Moravian, conducted the evening Harvest Service at
Ballinderry Moravian Church.
