The enthronement of the new Bishop of Connor, the Rt Rev Alan
Abernethy, will take place in Christ Church Cathedral, Lisburn,
on Thursday 6th September. Bishop Abernethy will be installed
and enthroned by the Dean of Connor, the Very Rev John Bond, in
a service beginning at 8pm.
The Dean will also dedicate the Bishop's new Pastoral Staff.
The service will be in two parts. In the first part the new
Bishop comes to his Cathedral to be publicly installed and
enthroned in his seat by the Dean at the command of the
Archbishop of Armagh.
In the second part, the Bishop begins his ministry in Connor.
First he prays for the Church and the community. Next, he
responds to the acknowledgement of his pastoral responsibility
from the clergy and to a pledge of support from the laity of the
Diocese.
He then preaches and gives his blessing.
Among the dignitaries scheduled to attend the service are the
Bishop of Linkoping, the Rt Rev Martin Lind, from Connor's link
diocese in Sweden.
