Health & Safety certificates presented at Lisburn's Downtown Centre

'The church will be a safer environment as a result of the training course'

73 ladies from Lisburn Downtown centre volunteers along with other members of the congregation and local churches recently completed a training course in 'Basic Health and Safety and Food Hygiene' held in the Downtown Centre at First Lisburn Presbyterian Church. Margaret Baillie - Downtown Co-ordinator, Mrs Hilary Diamond - Downtown Centre Secretary and Mrs Margaret McIlMoyle - Catering Convenor First Lisburn Presbyterian Church facilitated the course.

At a presentation ceremony on Wednesday 16th May the ladies who successfully completed the course and test received their certificates from Robert Lamont - Environmental Health Manager Lisburn City Council. In a brief introduction, Colin McKay - LDC Chairperson said that the work of the centre and indeed the church will be a safer environment as a result of the training course and congratulated the participants on engaging in the new venture. Robert Lamont - Lisburn City Council explained that churches are now more regulated by Health and Safety issues and pointed out that more claims were now made. He emphasised that the training course went a long way in protecting volunteers and the church. In looking to the future he made reference to a further course leading to an advanced qualification.
