retirement.

A special service was held in Hillsborough Free Presbyterian
Church on Tuesday 11th September to mark the retirement of Miss
Marjorie Boreland. Marjorie, who received an MBE in the 2000 new
years honours list for her services to Agricultural Research at
the Institute at Hillsborough, was appointed organist in
September 1967, a year after the formation of the congregation
in September 1966. In addition to demonstrating her musical
talents during her 40 years of loyal service as organist,
Marjorie has been involved with the Sunday school; has been a
former leader of the Junior Fellowship; and has taken an active
part in Children's Meetings.
The minister, the Rev Dr Stanley Barnes, who led the service,
said that the one word that described Marjorie was
'Dependability' and went on to say that she was 'totally
dependable' and reliable in everything that she did in service
for the Lord. Mr Barnes read a letter from the Moderator, The Rt
Hon Rev Dr Ian Paisley MP MLA and Baroness Eileen Paisley
congratulating Marjorie and wishing her a happy retirement.

The Rev Gordon Cooke recalled his early days as Student Minister
at Hillsborough from April 1967 to February 1968 when meetings
were held in the old Edenticullo Band Hut. He also recalled that
Marjorie became organist during his student ministry and
recollected her faithful service in an acrostic of the letters -
M.A.R.J.O.R.I.E.
The Rev Dr Fred Greenfield (Dunmurry Free Presbyterian Church)
spoke of the tent mission in 1966, led by the Rev William
Beattie, which resulted in the formation of the congregation.
Accompanying himself on the piano accordion, he reflected on
those days in the words of a song entitled 'Take me back to the
old fashioned meetings'.
David Williamson MBE (Clerk of Session), read a poem entitled
'Hillsborough's Little Angel' which gave a humorous account of
Marjorie's long and exemplary service. He then presented
Marjorie with a gift on behalf of the congregation.
Refreshments were served after the service providing the
opportunity for members of the congregation and guests to
further add their congratulations and best wishes to Marjorie.
