Local
Christian singer/songwriter and guitarist 18 year-old Nathan
Jess, from Hillsborough was the winner in the final year of the
Avalon competition held at this year's Summer Madness. The
competition was open to 16-30 year old up and coming singer
songwriters who have written some of their own material. After
an unsuccessful attempt for the coveted prize last year, Nathan
registered and sent his demo tape to competition organisers CMS
Ireland in early June and was selected as one of the final eight
contestants. He progressed through the Sunday heat to the grand
final on Monday 2nd July winning a 'Gold Series' Avalon acoustic
guitar and a full day in EMS recording studios in Bangor. As
overall winner, Nathan also had the opportunity to perform in
Monday evening's 'Blackout Session' in the finale of Summer
Madness when he played to a capacity crowd of 350 young people
who packed the popular venue 'The Cavern'.
