Roberta Rogers, the new Diocesan President for Down and Dromore Mothers'
Union took up her new role on the 1st January 2007, a position
she will hold for the next 3 years. She succeeds Anne Neill,
whose term of office ended in December 2006.
The new diocesan president has been a MU member since 1994. In
1999 she was area secretary for Gilnahirk and in 2002 was
Worldwide Representative, visiting some 36 branches in the
diocese to update MU members on worldwide events and overseas
and relief funds. In 2005 she was appointed action and outreach
co-ordinator.
Roberta has been a parish member in Down and Dromore throughout
her life, and has been a member of St Columba's parish in Knock,
Belfast for the past 21 years. She is married with two children.
As well as a demanding full time job in the Civil Service
Roberta manages to play an active role in her local parish,
added to which she now has the extra responsibilities as MU
diocesan president.
She is totally committed to the aims and objectives of the
Mothers' Union and her vision is to broaden project work at
branch level, support projects for young people and address the
challenging task of encouraging younger members to join the
Mothers' Union.
The past few years has seen Down and Dromore Mothers' Union play
an important role in catering for the hundreds of StreetReach
volunteers, who work in the inner city areas of Belfast at the
end of Summer Madness. Roberta and her MU colleagues already
have their aprons at the ready and are looking forward to
catering for the young people again this year. In 2006 they
served 700 breakfasts to the volunteers!
Roberta's commissioning service took place in St Columba's
parish church on Sunday 7th January. The preacher was Bishop
Harold and Margaret Crawford, who is the new All Ireland
President of Mothers' Union, was also at the service.
