The Rev Dr Fred Greenfield was installed
as the new minister of Dunmurry Free Presbyterian Church at
an Installation Service last Thursday evening (25th
January). Dr Greenfield succeeds the Rev William
Beattie, who was ordained in 1967 and who due to ill health,
retired from active ministry in December 2005; since then,
the congregation has been under the care of the Interim
Moderator, the Rev Dr Stanley Barnes, minister of
Hillsborough Free Presbyterian Church.
The Rev Dr Stanley Barnes
conducted the service and welcomed the large congregation of
friends, visitors and well wishers. The Rev William Beattie
was unfortunately unable to attend as he was in hospital,
but Mr Barnes said that he was delighted to welcome his son
Philip and daughter Louise. The Rev Alan Smylie (Ballygowan)
led the opening prayer; the Rev Samuel Murray (Tandragee)
read the Scripture reading; the Rev Jonathan Creane (Convoy,
Donegal) preached the Installation Sermon; and the Rev
Trevor Baxter (Ballynahinch) posed the prescribed questions
to the minister elect.

In a challenging charge to the minister and the
congregation, the
Rt Hon Rev Dr
Ian Paisley MP, recalled the first gospel mission at
Derriaghy and putting up the tent at Dunmurry. He also
recalled the meetings held in the Band Hall at
the rear of Dunmurry Inn prior to moving to a small hall on
the Glenburn Road in 1957. Speaking from Ezekiel 37 - 'the
valley of dry bones', Dr Paisley pointed out the hand of the
Lord was upon Ezekiel and that he was caught up by the
Spirit of God. He prayed that the new minister would burn
for the Lord and that he would have the humility that is
needed, reminding him that grace, wisdom and skills are all
gifts of God and we are nothing without Him. He charged Dr
Greenfield to proclaim His word and spread the word of the
Living God and be used as a channel to let the word of God
come through to the people and that he attempt great things
for God and expect great things from God.
Following Dr Paisleys' charge, Dr Fred Greenfield gave
his testimony and spoke of his conversion in 1965 at
Ravenhill Free Presbyterian Church and how from that moment
he was filled with a desire to share the Gospel with others
and how he felt the call into His service. He thanked the
congregation for issuing the call to him and prayed that God
would build His church in Dunmurry and prayed for God's
blessing.

The Interim Moderator,
the Rev Dr Stanley Barnes, spoke of how Dr Greenfield, a
great brother in the Lord, had been invited to take a
mission at Dunmurry, which later resulted in his call as the
new minister. He prayed that Dr Greenfield would carry on
the great foundation work laid by the Rev William Beattie.
Church elder, Mr Robin Eccles, formally welcomed Dr
Greenfield to Dunmurry. He thanked everyone for coming to
see the new minister installed and also thanked those who
took part in the service. Appreciating the loss at
Newtownards, he concluded by handing Dr Greenfield a set of
keys for his new church at Dunmurry.
Jacqueline Moore on organ
led the praise, the hymns were, 'Now Israel may say', 'I'm
not ashamed to own my Lord' and 'Revive thy work O Lord'.
Following the service of Installation and
presentation of several gifts, the Rev John Armstrong
(Antrim) pronounced the benediction and grace, after which a
delightful supper was served by the ladies of the
congregation.
Born and brought up in a Godly home in
Belfast, Dr Greenfield was educated at St Simon's Primary,
Fane Street Secondary School, Shaftsbury House Tutorial
College and the Belfast Technical College. He trained in
the Free Presbyterian Theological Hall and was ordained to
the Christian ministry in Portadown on 15th
December 1971. Since then he has been in full time ministry

Calgary (Canada), Crossgar and most recently in Grace Free
Presbyterian Church, Newtownards. Continuing his studies,
he obtained a Master of Arts and then a Doctor of Philosophy

1998.
In 1971, he married former Castlerobin
woman, Jean (nee Richardson) and they have two daughters
(Anne and Naomi), one son (Paul), and six lovely
grandchildren, which bring him much happiness. Gospel
singing has played a big part in his ministry. He has
recorded gospel tapes and CD's including: The stone was
rolled away, By Calvary, Until then, Don't be afraid, Child
of the King and his latest CD entitled The Family Bible was
released in Autumn 2006.
Dr Greenfield is well known throughout
the province having taken many evangelistic campaigns. Over
the years he has taken part in the prison ministry of the
Free Presbyterian Church and served two years as President
of the Church's Youth Movement.
Dr Greenfield commenced his ministry at
Dunmurry last Sunday (28th January). Although
still residing in Newtownards, Mr and Mrs Greenfield hope to
