The Rev. John Auchmuty, Rector of St. Andrew's Church,
Killaney and St Ignatius Church, Carryduff, will be
instituted in the Parish of Saint Columba, Knock on Monday
3rd September at 7.30pm by The Rt. Rev. Harold Miller -
Bishop of Down and Dromore. He will succeed The Venerable
Gregor McCamley who retired as Rector of Knock earlier this
year. The Vicar of St. Columba's, The Rev. Gill Withers,
will assist the new Rector.
Mr Auchmuty was instituted in the grouped parish of Killaney
and Carryduff in March 2001. During the past 6½ years, the
parishes have experienced significant growth and
development. He attributes this to the commitment of the
parishioners and the welcome which is given to visitors and
thanks the members of the local community for their generous
financial support, which has enabled both parishes to carry
out essential restoration projects to their church buildings
and grounds. As Mr Auchmuty and his family prepare to leave
the Rectory in Carryduff at the end of August, they will
take with them many happy memories of their ministry in
Killaney and Carryduff. Commenting on their move, he said,
'It has been an immense privilege for us to have contributed
to the life and witness of the parishes of Killaney and
Carryduff. We will never forget the parishioners and our
very happy years in these thriving parishes and we thank
them all for their constant kindness, support and prayers.
Our prayers for them will continue after we move to St. Columba's, Knock where our first priority will be getting to
know our new parishioners'.
