The
Rev Simon Doogan, Rector of Holy Trinity, Aghalee, has been
appointed as the new rector of St Columbanas, Ballyholme in
succession to the Rt Rev Canon Alan Abernethy who was appointed
the new Bishop of Connor in April 2007. A date for Mr Doogan's
Institution at Ballyholme Parish has still to be arranged.
Mr Doogan served his curacy in St Finnian's, Cregagh from 1997
to 2001 and moved to the Diocese of Chichester to become
Bishop's Domestic Chaplain to the Area Bishop of Horsham where
he remained until his return to the Diocese of Down & Dromore as
rector of Holy Trinity, Aghalee in April 2004. In addition to
his duties at Aghalee, he also holds the position of Diocesan
Registrar.
Aghalee Parish Church also hold a joint service at Maghaberry
Methodist Church on Sunday mornings at 10.30am and Mr Doogan's
move to Ballyholme will mean that he will be greatly missed both
at Aghalee and at Maghaberry.
