Lisburn and District Scouts celebrate
100 years of Scouting with a series of church services to be
held in three Lisburn city centre churches next Sunday
afternoon (22nd April) at 3.30pm. The service
for the Beaver Section will be held in Railway Street
Presbyterian, the service for the Cub Section will be held
in Lisburn Cathedral and the main service for the Scout and
Explorer Scout Sections will be held in First Lisburn
Presbyterian Church where the special guests will be the
Lagan Valley MP Jeffrey Donaldson, the Deputy Mayor -
Councillor James Tinsley and many former local
Commissioners.
Organised by the Lisburn & District
Scouts, the services will be attended by all County Antrim
Scouts. The parade will assemble at Wallace Park at 2.30pm
sharp and will leave the park via the Magheralave Road gate
at 2.50pm. The route taken will be - North Circular Road,
Antrim Street, Bachelors Walk then Railway Street where the
Beaver Section will exit the parade and file into Railway
Street Presbyterian Church. The remainder of the parade
will continue along Railway Street to Lisburn Cathedral
where the Cub Section will exit the parade. The remaining
element of the parade (Scout and Explorer Scout Sections)
and their leaders will continue through Market Square to
First Lisburn Presbyterian Church for the main service. All
three services will start at 3.30pm.
On the
return route to Wallace Park, the Beavers will leave Railway
Street Presbyterian Church, re assemble and parade along
Railway Street to Lisburn Cathedral where the Cub section
will join them. Both sections will then continue through
Market Square to First Lisburn Presbyterian where the senior
scouts will join the parade. The full parade will then go
to Smithfield and Dublin Road towards Lisburn Mall, then
along Antrim Street, turning into Bachelors Walk and up
Magheralave Road, returning to Wallace Park at about 5.15pm.
This will be the biggest Scouting event held within Lisburn
and promises to be a great way to kick start the centenary
celebrations.
Bands taking part will be: Lisburn
Young Defenders Flute Band, Skeogh Flute Band, Suffolk Boys'
Brigade Flute Band, Ballyduff Silver Band, Ballylesson Flute
Band, Magheramore Silver Band, Ballyduggan Pipe Band and

District Commissioner, Noel Irwin and
his organising Committee are looking for a big turnout from
all groups and would like to thank all three churches for
agreeing to host the services and also thank the County
Commissioner for allowing the District to host such a
prestigious event.
