The Mayor - Councillor Trevor Lunn and the
Mayoress - Mrs Laureen Lunn were the special guests at the
Annual Community Service in the Parish Church of St Patrick,
Drumbeg last Sunday morning 10th June.
The rector, the Rev Raymond Devenney led the service and
welcomed the congregation, visitors and special guests. The
Mayor thanked Mr Devenney for his invitation saying that it was
lovely to be back in this his third visit to the church. He
thanked the congregation and the Drumbeg Residents Association
for the initiative in holding this service. The Mayor, a former
organist, spoke of his pleasure at the installation of a new
organ in the church and in bringing the greetings of Lisburn
City Council, wished the congregation and the Drumbeg Residents
Association God's blessing.
The
Scripture lessons from 1 Kings 17 v 8-16 and Luke 7 v 11-17,
were read by Gwen Forsythe (Principal, Charley Memorial School)
and Walter Carswell (Art Club). The prayer leaders were Liam
Russell (Parish Church), Beryl Dean (President of Drumbeg
Residents' Association), John Lucas (Bowling Club) and May Irwin
(Women's Institute).
Organist Ross Morrow and the Choir of St
Patrick's, Drumbeg led the worship. The hymns were 'Be thou my
vision', 'Be still, for the presence of the Lord', 'Majesty,
worship his majesty', 'And can it be that I should gain', 'Lord
the light of your love is shining', 'To God be the glory' and
'Oh for a thousand tongues to sing'.
Mr John McMullen (Chief Executive of Bryson Charitable Group)
gave the address and the offering was taken in support of the
important work of this charitable group.
Work on the installation of a new organ was completed last week
and as the congregation left the historic church, organist Ross
Morrow played Tocatta by Charles-Marie Widor. The Bishop of Down
& Dromore, the Rt. Revd Harold Miller, will dedicate the organ
on Sunday 9th September.
The Rector thanked all who contributed to the service and in
particular the Officers and Members of Drumbeg Residents'
Association; all the organisations represented at the service;
and the organist and choir. The collectors were Bill Parkes
(Parish Church), Clara Crookshanks (Flower Arranging Club),
Michael Shannon (Residents' Association), Hilary Branson
(Badminton) and Thomas Kerr (Loyal Orders). Sidesmen were Elvira
Tulip MBE (Residents' Association), Tony Hegarty (Residents'
Association). Flowers were by Leckey Florists.
