A united service for all 22 churches in the Presbytery of
Dromore was held in First Dromore Presbyterian Church last
Sunday evening (11th March). The Rev Gary Trueman, the recently
appointed Moderator of the Presbytery of Dromore, led the
service and the guest preacher was the Moderator of the General
Assembly, the Rt Rev Dr David Clarke.
In his call to worship, Mr Trueman welcomed the large
congregation and gave a special welcome to the Moderator.
The Rev Gary Glasgow, minister of Drumlough and Anahilt,
conducted a brief interview with the Moderator enabling him to
recall his election and expectations as Moderator and also to
recall some of the most memorable and enjoyable times of his
busy Moderatorial year to date.
The Rev Karen Campbell, assistant minister of Harmony Hill
Presbyterian Church, read the Scripture lessons from Ezekiel 18
vs 1-4 and Galatians 6 vs 1-10 and the Rev Adrian McLernon,
minister of Drumbo Presbyterian Church, led the intercessory
prayer. Peter McKechnie and the Worship Team from Elmwood
Presbyterian Church, Lisburn, led the praise. The hymns
included, 'To God be the glory', 'Jesus Christ, I think upon
Your sacrifice' and 'King of kings, majesty'.

In his address, the Moderator spoke on the theme 'Perilous
Proverbs'. Referring to Ezekiel's proverb, he said that we don't
answer for the sin of others - we answer for our own and
emphasised the need to take responsibility for our own lives.
Referring to the answer Cain gave when challenged about Abel's
murder 'Am I my brother's keeper'' the Moderator explained out
that we do need to be our brother's keeper and said, 'It is our
duty to serve those less fortunate than ourselves'. Referring to
Jeremiah's proverb, he quoted the well-known verse 'can a
leopard change his spots'' and went on to explain that the New
Testament is full of stories of lives changed by Jesus Christ.
'Yes' he said, 'human nature can be changed' and concluded by
saying, 'Christ can, and will change you - if you will only
allow him.
At the request of the Moderator, the offering of '642 will be
donated to the Bible Society providing the Scriptures on
audiocassette for visually impaired people in Egypt.
The 22 Dromore Presbytery churches represented at the service
were: Anahilt, Ballinderry, Banbridge Road - Dromore,
Cargycreevy, Drumbo, Drumlough, Elmwood - Lisburn, First
Dromara, First Dromore, First Lisburn, Harmony Hill - Lambeg,
Hillhall, Hillsborough, Legacurry, Loughaghery, Magheragall,
Maze, Moira, Railway Street- Lisburn, Second Dromara, Sloan
Street - Lisburn and St. Columba's - Lisburn.
Following the service, a delightful supper was served in the
church hall.
