A united service for all 22 churches in the Presbytery of Dromore was held in First Dromore Presbyterian Church last Sunday evening (11th March). The Rev Gary Trueman, the recently appointed Moderator of the Presbytery of Dromore, led the service and the guest preacher was the Moderator of the General Assembly, the Rt Rev Dr David Clarke.

In his call to worship, Mr Trueman welcomed the large congregation and gave a special welcome to the Moderator.

The Rev Gary Glasgow, minister of Drumlough and Anahilt, conducted a brief interview with the Moderator enabling him to recall his election and expectations as Moderator and also to recall some of the most memorable and enjoyable times of his busy Moderatorial year to date.

The Rev Karen Campbell, assistant minister of Harmony Hill Presbyterian Church, read the Scripture lessons from Ezekiel 18 vs 1-4 and Galatians 6 vs 1-10 and the Rev Adrian McLernon, minister of Drumbo Presbyterian Church, led the intercessory prayer. Peter McKechnie and the Worship Team from Elmwood Presbyterian Church, Lisburn, led the praise. The hymns included, 'To God be the glory', 'Jesus Christ, I think upon Your sacrifice' and 'King of kings, majesty'.

In his address, the Moderator spoke on the theme 'Perilous Proverbs'. Referring to Ezekiel's proverb, he said that we don't answer for the sin of others - we answer for our own and emphasised the need to take responsibility for our own lives. Referring to the answer Cain gave when challenged about Abel's murder 'Am I my brother's keeper'' the Moderator explained out that we do need to be our brother's keeper and said, 'It is our duty to serve those less fortunate than ourselves'. Referring to Jeremiah's proverb, he quoted the well-known verse 'can a leopard change his spots'' and went on to explain that the New Testament is full of stories of lives changed by Jesus Christ. 'Yes' he said, 'human nature can be changed' and concluded by saying, 'Christ can, and will change you - if you will only allow him.

At the request of the Moderator, the offering of '642 will be donated to the Bible Society providing the Scriptures on audiocassette for visually impaired people in Egypt.
