Volunteers from the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter Day Saints who took part in
the Colin Glen clean up
MORE than 120. young members of the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, including 50
who travelled to Lisburn from Dublin and Cork, took part in
a major clean up at Colin Glen Forest Park last Saturday.
The `Helping Hands Project' was part of
the church's quarterly, youth conference and the work took
more than three hours.
In total the young people supplied more than
400 man hours of painting, pulling, lifting and hauling. The
group was the largest ever to volunteer at Colin Glen and as
a result they were able to complete tasks in a fraction of
the normal time.
Jo Boylan, Volunteer Development Officer
with the Colin Glen Trust, said: "We wouldn't normally get
the opportunity to have such a large group of volunteers so
we were able to achieve much more to improve the woodland
and increase the biodiversity.
"The group was a fantastic help. In
addition to a general litter lift throughout the park, they
painted three bridges, completed a Conservation Trust
butterfly survey and cleared a woodland area to open up the
forest floor."
