Hymns at Dromore Orange Hall last Sunday evening
(13th July). L to R: (seated) Jubilee Singers (Closkelt)

(accompanist), Bro Eric Jess (Worshipful District
Master) and Laura Johnston (soloist).
Dromore Orange Hall was packed last Sunday evening (13th July)
for a service of My Favourite Hymns. Organised by Dr Jonathan
Mattison, Edward Hanna and Alicia Dickson of Lower Iveagh
Cultural and Heritage committee, the evening of praise concluded
a series of events in the Ulster Scots Festival. Banners with
religious themes were positioned round the hall bearing
testimony to the deep Christian faith on which the Orange Order
is founded.
Dr Mattison introduced each hymn with an interesting and
meticulously researched background about the hymn writers
including Banbridge man Joseph Scriven, who wrote the well-known
hymn What a friend we have in Jesus. Christine Ward presided
at the keyboard and led the singing of a great selection of
Gospel praise requested by lodges in the Lower Iveagh District.
The Jubilee Singers (Closkelt) accompanied by Ooleen Barlow
brought several messages in song and the soloist was Laura
Johnston.
District Chaplain, the Rev Jim Mattison, thanked all who took
part and requested that the event should become a permanent
fixture in the districts busy calendar of events; this
suggestion was endorsed by Bro Eric Jess (Worshipful District
Master) who said that it was one of the most enjoyable evenings
he had ever attended in Dromore Orange Hall.
The retiring offering of 220 will be donated to the Lord
Enniskillen Memorial Orphan Society.
