Dean), Ven Gregor McCamley (Acting Registrar), Rt Revd
Harold Miller (Bishop of Down and Dromore), Ven John
Scott (Archdeacon of Dromore), Revd Charles McCartney
(new Rector), Canon Roderic West (former Rural Dean), Rt
Rev Edward Darling and Revd Colin Duncan (Bloomfield
Methodist Church). |
The Revd Charles McCartney was instituted as the Rector of Aghalee by the Bishop of Down and Dromore, the Rt Revd Harold
Miller on Thursday 18th September.
Holy Trinity Church on the Soldierstown Road just outside the
village was filled to capacity for the service with
parishioners, family, friends and supporters of Revd McCartney,
many of who had travelled from his former Parish of St Donards
on the Bloomfield Road in East Belfast. He was ordained in 1985
and became Curate in St Mark's, Portadown (1985-1988). For a
short time he was Rector of Ballygawley before joining the Army
where he served as Chaplain to the Forces (1989-2004). He
returned to parish ministry in Belfast in 2004 at St Donards.
His home parish is St Elizabeth, Dundonald. Charles is married
to Cecilia and they have 5 children: Robert and Carol (27),
Naomi (26), Charlene (23) and Christopher (18).
The Preacher at the service was Revd Colin Duncan, Minister of
Bloomfield Methodist Church, and with whom Charles had a close
working relationship in East Belfast.
Writing in Broadwater Beacon the Aghalee Parish magazine, the
new Rector says, Cecilia and I really look forward to getting
to know everyone and settling into parish life. We both believe
this is Gods call and accept that God will move His troops into
new positions. We have pondered on what our Lord has planned for
us and with you in Aghalee. I wonder what new adventures are
planned?
