Scott Mackey has recently joined the Down and Dromore Diocesan
staff team as Communications and Projects Officer. He comes to
the post after two years as Project Officer for Lagan Valley
Rural Transport, a rural community transport operator based in
Lisburn. Prior to that, Scott worked as a Researcher at the
University of Ulster in Jordanstown. He also completed his
degree in 2002 and his Doctorate in 2005 at the University.
A past pupil of Dromore High School and Banbridge Academy, Scott
brings experience in research and communications to the post,
having worked extensively on a study into Safer Journeys to
School, carried out by the University of Ulster for the Northern
Ireland Commissioner for Children and Young People (NICCY), the
Department for Regional Development (DRD) and the General
Consumer Council (GCCNI). In his previous employment, Scott was
involved extensively in communications and publicity, regularly
liasing with local press and media outlets, and designing and
producing reports and information publications. Scott has also
been involved in devising projects, research and events to
communicate and/or publicise various aspects of the
organisations he has been involved with.
A life-long member of the Church of Ireland in Down and Dromore,
Scott is a Parishioner and Youth Leader in Dromore Cathedral and
has served on the Select Vestry in the Parish where he has been
actively involved in the Parish Development Committee. He is
also assistant editor of the Parish Magazine, extensively
involved in developing the Cathedral�s youth ministry and has
led the young people of the parish in presenting and producing a
series of 2 hour radio programmes on �Shine FM� � a Christian
Community Radio station based in Banbridge. He completed an OCN
Accreditation in youth work in 2005.
Speaking of Scott�s appointment, Bishop Harold says �I am
absolutely thrilled to welcome Scott Mackey as the new
Communications and Projects Officer for the Diocese of Down and
Dromore. Scott not only has a wide experience of the area of
communications, but also a real passion for communicating the
message of the Christian Church�.
Scott says �I am delighted to be taking up the post of
Communications and Projects Officer in Down and Dromore and
looking forward to getting out and about in the Diocese, meeting
and working with clergy and other people in the parishes as
well�.
