Newly installed elders - Denis
Easton, Les Carson and Edwin Kinghan. |
New and existing elders of Second
Dromara Presbyterian Church. |
A service was held in Second Dromara Presbyterian Church on
Tuesday 29th April for the Ordination and Installation of Mr Les
Carson and Mr Edwin Kinghan and the Installation of Mr Denis
Easton as ruling elders in the congregation. The Moderator, the
Rev David Porter, assisted by the Acting Clerk, the Rev David
McConaghy conducted the act of installation.
In a Scripture warrant to the new elders, the Rev Leslie
Patterson spoke of the high standards set down for elders in
Gods word and the importance of being servants and followers of
Jesus Christ. Referring to the Scripture reading, he emphasised
the need to watch over the flock so that the sheep (Gods
children) are kept safe. He encouraged them to be part of a
team, caring and working together for the good of Gods people
in the ministry of the church and also the mission outside the
church.
In a practical charge to the new elders and the congregation,
the Rev Gary Glasgow also picked up on the shepherding theme.
Emphasising the need to know your sheep and feed your sheep, he
encouraged them to be shepherds of the church of Jesus Christ,
which He bought with His own blood. Explaining the importance of
being a servant of God and carrying out the Masters orders, he
said that they should - make disciples in this church; set an
example for the people; and be Christ-like and worthy of the
calling.
Ian Beattie presided at the organ and Pauline Johnston on piano.
Together with the church choir they led the singing of the
following praise - I joyed when to the house of God, I stand
amazed in the presence, Who is on the Lords side? and Be
Thou my Vision.
An offering was taken for the Students Bursary Fund and
following the service a reception was held in the church hall
for the new ruling elders, during which time a delightful supper
was served.
