Maghaberry Elim's worship band who
took part in a special fundraising concert for
Zimbabwe. |
Maghaberry Elim elder Roy Erwin
welcomes Gospel singer Paul Silcocks to the church's
fundraising concert for Zimbabwe. |
MAGHABERRY Elim Tabernacle's recent praise
concert raised almost 1,500 to help build an orphanage in
Zimbabwe's capital, Harare, for babies infected with the HIV
virus.
Among those on stage were some of the top
names in the Gospel music circuit including the Calvary
Quartet, Paul Silcocks, Liz Clarke, and the church's own
highly talented worship team.
The concert also brought to a conclusion a
hectic series of outreach events organised by the church.
They began when more than 50 children,
parents and church workers attended the annual Detonate
youth club and Sunday School trip to Belfast zoo.
This was followed a few days later when a
team of outreach workers attended a special evangelism
training event in Hillsborough Elim, when almost 20 churches
were represented for an evening of training, discussion,
prayer, and praise.
Maghaberry Elim outreach workers are
expected to take part in summer evangelising campaigns both
in Northern Ireland and in Navan in the Republic of Ireland.
A few days ago the church hosted the second of its
successful men's breakfast events. Male church members
cooked and served a hearty Ulster fry to a range of guests
from Maghaberry and Moira villages.
The guest speaker was Lagan Valley Assembly
member
Jonathan Craig, who gave his testimony about
becoming a 'born again' believer and how his Christian faith
helped him in his role as a politician.
And last week, the church was packed for
the annual Sunday School concert and prize giving ceremony.
The Sunday School (known as Jam - Jesus
And Me) children along with seniors from the Bible
Class performed an impressive selection of
Gospel praise, drama and a puppet show.
Church pastor Paul Evans thanked the
children for their excellent performance, the relatives for
sending their young ones to the Sunday School, and the
public who packed the building.
He also thanked Mrs Freya Gilmore, the
Sunday School Superintendent, and her team of
teachers for the terrific programme and
their commitment to Gospel outreach.
A special presentation was made to Mr Paul
Eagleson, a student for the ministry, who is leaving as
Bible Class leader. After the Sunday School and Bible Class
programme, the young people were presented with their
prizes. The event was followed by another delicious supper
served in the church hall.
Having a super time at Belfast zoo are
these Young folks from Maghaberry Elim's Sunday School and
Detonate youth club.
