The large tent at the Knocknadona Key 2 Life Gospel Campaign
was packed to capacity on Thursday 22nd May to hear local man
Wesley Campbell speak of his meeting with the Queen and also of
his meeting with the King of Kings. In conversation with Faith
Mission Director Trevor Matthews, the sprightly 94 year old told
of his great pleasure in accepting an invitation to St Patricks
Cathedral in Armagh on Maundy Thursday (20th March) where he
received Royal Maundy purses from the Queen in recognition of
his long and exemplary service to the church and the community.
He then went on to tell of his meeting with the King of Kings
and Lord of all, when at the age of just 10, he become a
Christian on 26th October 1923 during a Gospel Mission at Beanstown Mission Hall led by the Faith Mission Pilgrims.
Although no children attended those meetings (due to the large
number of adults attending), his father, who on that occasion
had cataracts and was unable to see properly, asked the ten
year-old Wesley to accompany him to the Mission along the dark
country roads from their home at the Water Works, where his
father was caretaker.
The retired Commercial Traveller, who is a lifelong Methodist,
is a member of Magheragall Methodist Church. Born on 2nd July
1913, his full Christian name is John Wesley, named after the
founder of Methodism. Wesley went on to speak of a full and
great life in which he was a Faith Mission Prayer Union member
for over 80 years; Sunday School Superintendent for 25 years;
and member of the Disabled Christian Fellowship for 32 years as
well as being an organist, singer and preacher.
Explaining that he was near the end of his earthly journey,
Wesley said that nothing would give him more pleasure than
knowing that someone would come to know the Lord as a result of
his interview. God has been good to me, he said; and
concluded, If you dont know God - you dont know what you are
missing.
