Glorious sunshine paved the way as accompanied by several local bands, brethren from Derriaghy District LOL No 11 and Lisburn District LOL No 6, paraded to and from Lambeg Parish Church for their annual ‘Empire Day Service’, hosted by Lambeg Temperance LOL 912, on Sunday 31st May. The Rector, the Rev Canon Ken McReynolds, led the service and the speaker was the Rev John Pickering, Senior Minister of Christ Church Parish, Lisburn. Richard Irvine presided at the organ. In a challenging address, the former Rector of Drumcree Parish Church, spoke of ‘Bible’, ‘Belief’ and ‘Belonging’; basing his sermon on Romans 1 v 17, “It is written, the just shall live by faith”. BIBLE: He emphasised that the Bible is the supreme authority in Spiritual matters and must be obeyed. BELIEF: he explained that people come into a right relationship with God by faith in Christ. BELONGING: he concluded that people can have the assurance of heaven as they live with Christ in this world and also in the next world as they experience the wondrous assurance of knowing that they ‘belong’ to God and that they are on their way to heaven to live forever with the Lord.
