Pastor Clifford Morrison was welcomed to the Pastorate of Carr Baptist Church at an Induction Service in the church last Friday evening (17th April) chaired by Pastor Walter Entwistle.
Mr Robin McCluskey, a Carr Baptist Elder, gave a brief history of the call. He spoke of a journey that would bring together a pastor and people, and to this significant milestone in the history of Carr Baptist Church. He recalled their former Pastor Richard Garnham’s move to Moira and how as a group of elders they regularly met to pray, plan and discuss the vacancy. He also paid a special thanks to Church Secretary, Myles Cordner for his outstanding work in booking excellent speakers throughout the vacancy. He recalled their approach to Pastor Morrison at a preliminary meeting and of the positive response received. At a later meeting, Pastor Morrison informed them that both he and Margaret felt a real peace about this approach from Carr. At a subsequent meeting with office bearers, a unanimous recommendation was endorsed by an overwhelming decision by the Members to issue a call to Pastor Morrison to become the Senior Pastor of Carr Baptist Church. Under God’s guidance, Pastor Morrison accepted the Call. Mr McCluskey concluded, “As Elders with the body of believers at Carr we look forward to experiencing the next exciting stage of the journey with Pastor Morrison in God’s Work at Carr”.
In response, Pastor Morrison said that he and his wife Margaret had come to Carr with a deep sense of calling in their lives at this time and by God’s grace to seek to fulfil their duties and responsibilities in a God glorifying manner.
Mr Victor Scott, gave the right hand of fellowship and Pastor Jim Smyth conducted the act of Induction and Mr Robert Graham led the induction prayer. Pastor Ian Grant and Pastor Freddie McClaughlin read the Scripture lessons and Pastor Ian Grant and Pastor Denis Lyle led the prayers.
In a challenging address to the, Pastor Freddie McClaughlin spoke of the need to be a light that will shine in the darkness. He called on the new pastor and the congregation to be filled with the Holy Spirit and embrace the mission of the church ensuring that with integrity and transparency, they fill the Spiritual vacuum with the news that only God can fill.
Mrs Roberta Adams presided at the organ and Mrs Naomi McCluskey accompanied on the piano. The hymns were, ‘Sovereign Grace O’er Sin Abounding’, ‘You’re The Word Of God The Father’ and ‘Jesus Is King’. Carr Praise Group sang, ‘God of Grace’.
Greetings were brought by Pastor Billy Colville on behalf of the Association of Baptist Churches, Pastor Jackie Hughes on behalf of Local Baptist Churches, Rev Alistair Smyth on behalf of Neighbouring Churches and Mr Carl Sands, an elder of Portadown Baptist Church. Mrs Hazel Hilland made a floral presentation Mrs Margaret Morrison. The Church Secretary, Mr Myles Cordner, gave the announcements and Pastor Sam Carson gave thanks for a delightful supper, which was served afterwards in the church hall.
