The Rev Dr Peter Mercer was welcomed as the new minister of Broomhedge Methodist Church by the Rev Brian Anderson, Superintendent Minister for the Lisburn and Dromore Methodist Circuit, at a service of introduction on Sunday 5th July. Previously minister of Greencastle Church on the Newtownabbey Mission Circuit, Dr Mercer will have pastoral oversight of both Broomhedge and Magheragall in succession to the Rev Ed McDade. Mr McDade, who previously had pastoral oversight of Broomhedge, Magheragall and Trinity Methodist Churches, will now concentrate his ministerial duties solely on Trinity Methodist Church where he will be assisted by Mrs Angela Sofley, Lay Pastoral Assistant and Mr David Twyble, who looks after Trinity’s many links with local community groups and organisations.
Dr Mercer preached his first sermon at Magheragall on Sunday 2nd August and preached his first sermon at Broomhedge on Sunday 9th August. Retired Minister, the Rev Dr Edmund Mawhinney, will assist Dr Mercer at Broomhedge and Magheragall.
