A YOUNG Adults group from Hillsborough Presbyterian Church will head to Zambia in July to help with the work of Oasis Village Trust.
In order to make their 'African dream' become a reality, they have been fundraising for over a year. The 20 team members -comprising members of 'YAG' and parents and friends - need to raise the grand total of £24,000. They are halfway to meeting their target.
Fundraising so far has consisted of a 'High Chai' (afternoon tea event with an African flavour), a beetle drive, a table quiz, the sale of calendars and fireside quizzes and a car washing service every Saturday, morning at the church. They also held a concert in February.
The next event is an Easter Fete in the halls and grounds of Hillsborough Presbyterian Church on Saturday March 27 from 1pm-4pm. All proceeds from this event will go towards team fundraising. The team encourage you to go along and check out the indoor jumble sale, relax in the tearoom or sample some BBQ food.
There are also lots of child friendly activities, for example, the free Easter games and face painting, Easter egg decorating and rolling, the indoor bouncy castle and the Easter egg hunt which takes place at 2pm with the help of the Easter bunny. Admission only costs £I for adults and 50p for children. When in Africa the team will be helping with the building and refurbishing of the remaining chalets, as well as taking part in outreach with local young people. In addition to building, the team will also provide educational supplies and tools to further assist the project.
If you would like to know more about the Oasis Village Trust or would be interested in helping or attending any fundraising events, you can contact team leader, Lisa Scott on 92 621094. Alternatively, call in at the church any Saturday morning and let the team members wash your car and answer any questions about the mission that they are so excited about and privileged to be part of.
The team would like to thank everyone who has supported them so far.
