First rehearsal for new Lisburn Ladies Choir
A NEWLY formed Lisburn Ladies Choir will be holding their first rehearsal next Wednesday evening.
The choir is the brainchild of primary school music teacher and Musical Director at Atlas, Kirsty Orr from Lisburn and they will meet every Wednesday evening at Brownlee Primary School.
She has been interested in singing from the age of seven and been in a variety of choirs, but it was when she moved into Lisburn four years ago that she saw a niche for a ladies choir.
She said: "I thought there was a big gap in Lisburn for a choir. I have lived here for the past four years and really if you wanted to join a choir you had to go to Belfast.
"Of course there is Lisnagarvey Operatic Society, but I wanted something that was not solely involved in opera. A lot of our ladies do not want to be on the stage they just want to sing."
Anyone who would like to join does not have to be experienced, but just keen
to sing.
"We have three informal concerts already planned between now and Christmas
and hope to become a musical stalwart in Lisburn," said Kirsty.
Their first rehearsal is at Brownlee Primary School and anyone above the age of 16 that wants to join can just go along.
"There is no audition and we will sing all types of music from classic, pop and rock - all the different type of styles," said Kirsty.
"It does not matter if they are experienced or just like to sing. They can just come along.
"I have been advertising the choir on the Internet and sent out fliers and already we have up to 25 members."
Their first concert is on November 6 at Lisburn Library. There will also be one at Rowallane Gardens in Saintfield on Sunday, December 12 and the third at Lisburn Museum for on Saturday, December 18.
The choir will hold their rehearsals each Wednesday from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.
