THE recent Donation Day of fun and festivities in Oxfam Ireland's Lisburn shop proved a resounding success' as local people really got behind the charity's by donating their unwanted goods to raise much needed funds for its work in Africa.

Chris Frieze, Oxfam Lisburn shop manager, said: "The people of Lisburn responded superbly, so I would just like to say a massive thank you to everyone who contributed and made the day such a success.

"We had illusionist Paul Ormonde with his glamorous assistant Sara Stevenson, pulling donated goods from a top hat to symbolize how Oxfam can magically transform unwanted clutter into invaluable items to help those people suffering in poorer countries. Oxfam can only perform such wonders with the ongoing support of the public and of course the urgent need for stock donations continues — every day is Donation Day for Oxfam — so please keep those bags coming."

Oxfam Ireland's Lisburn shop is one of a network of 49 shops which are vital to raising money for Oxfam's overseas programme and campaigning work. If Oxfam Lisburn sells five paperbacks this will generate enough money to buy schoolbooks for one Tanzanian child for an entire year and if the shop sells one vase this can buy three life-saving buckets specially designed to keep water safe and clean for people in Malawi' for instance.
