DERRIAGHY Rector, the Rev Canon John Budd was installed as Prebendary of Rasharkin in Christ Church Cathedral, Lisburn this week. The new Canon was Installed by the Dean of Connor, The Very Rev John Bond.
Originally from Essex, Canon Budd is a graduate of Queen's University. After serving his first curacy in Ballymena and a further curacy in Jordanstown with Monkstown, he was appointed Rector of Craigs with Dunaghy & Killagan and has been Rector of Derriaghy with Colin since 1997. Married to Carla, Canon Budd has three grown up children Peter, Harriet and Matthew.
The Archdeacon of Connor, The Ven. Stephen McBride presented the new Canon to Dean Bond to be Installed as Prebendary of Rasharkin in the Chapter of St Saviour in Christ Church Cathedral. The address was given by the Rev Canon George Irwin, Rector of Ballymacash, who paid tribute to the many fine qualities of Canon Budd whom he had known since college days. He said that the new canon's appointment by the Bishop was recognition of his contribution to the diocese and an acknowledgment of his ministry and for his wife and family and for the parish of Derriaghy where he has served lovingly and faithfully for the past 14 years, a good shepherd in the Church of God.
Also taking part in the service were Canon Sam Wright, Rector of the Cathedral, Chancellor Stuart Lloyd, Canon Percy Walker, the Rev Simon Genoe Cathedral Curate and the Bishop of Connor.
The combined choirs of the Cathedral and Derriaghy led the praise and the organist was Mr Andrew Skelly. The Choir sang the Anthem 'Praise God from whom all blessings flow' a hymn by Derriaghy Organist and Choirmaster Davrd Wheavil.
A splendid supper was provided by the men and ladies of the
Cathedral. Dean Bond thanked all who attended the service and Canon Budd
suitably replied. A presentation was made to Dean John
and Mrs. Joyce Bond to mark their wedding anniversary and also to Mrs
Carla Budd. The Bishop closed a very happy evening with prayer.
