A SPONSORED 'well push', in aid of the St Pauls Parish Kenya Water Pump Project, raised a magnificent £1,342 last Saturday, with funds going towards the construction of a water pump at the Oloosuyian Maasi Girls School in Kajiado, Kenya.

The pump will provide clean water for over 200 families in what is a very fertile part of the country, with the water being used for agriculture, washing as well as the reduction of the spread of disease through the provision of a safe dependable supply of drinking water.

The importance of water within Kenya, was witnessed at first hand by 25 parishioners who visited the country in 2009, during which Kenya experienced a severe drought, and organiser Chris Orr, who himself visited Kenya, was overjoyed at the response.

The construction of the pump, will also mean that a Pump House will also be built to protect the Pump itself, using funds raised in memory of the late Mabel Jamison, whose son Mark, helped Chris on the day.

Chris Orr, who helped to organise the event, said: "Special thanks to the shop owners on Longstone Street and Chapel Hill, who supported this effort, all the members of the general public who encouraged and supported along the way, and the team of St Pauls parishioners who braved the cold weather in aid of such a worthy cause."
