THE Lisburn Cathedral Mother's Union has raised £500 for the Children's MRI Scanner Appeal by hosting a charity coffee morning and selling fireside quizzes.

Sarah Quinlan, Executive Officer with the Children's Heartbeat Trust, one of the charities involved in the Appeal, said: "We are very thankful to all the members of the Lisburn Cathedral Mother's Union and everyone who supported them in raising these essential funds.

The Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children is the only children's hospital in the UK not to have an MRI Scanner and this donation will help us towards securing this much needed piece of equipment.'
She said that without a dedicated Children's Scanner in the Children's hospital, many children in Northern Ireland who would benefit from an MRI Scan are unable to have one.

Instead, she said, these children undergo different types of investigation that can be invasive or involve radiation, and may even have to travel outside of Northern Ireland for a scan. An MRI Scanner would benefit all sick children in Northern Ireland.
