THE Rev Kenneth Hanna will be installed as the new minister of Second Dromara Presbyterian Church on Saturday 16th April at 2.00pm. He succeeds the Rev David Porter who was installed in January 2001 and retired in January 2010 and now, as the Minister Emeritus, lives in Coleraine. Mr. Hanna is married to Freda and they have two children Rebekah (age 11) and Matthew (age 8). Brought up in Kilkeel, he attended Mourne Presbyterian Church.
An avid Manchester United supporter, he enjoys walking in the countryside, helping on the family farm and spending time with his family.
After completing Modern Studies in the Humanities at the University of Ulster (Jordanstown) he graduated in July 1996 and progressed to Union Theological College (Queen's University, Belfast) where in July 1999 he graduated Bachelor of Divinity.
In June 1999 he was licensed in Mourne Presbyterian Church, Kilkeel and in September 2001 he was Ordained in Glenwherry Presbyterian Church. From August 1998 to September 2001 he was Assistant Minister at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Bangor and since September 2001 he has been Minister of Glenwherry Presbyterian Church, which is situated between Ballymena, Lame and Ballyclare.
Speaking of how God had richly blessed him and his family during his 10 year ministry at Glenwherry, Mr. Hanna said: As a family, we were very involved in the congregation and community there. The people really took us to their hearts and we have many, many happy memories to look back upon.
"We thank God for bringing people of all ages to salvation, during our time in Glenwherry and for building up His Christian people to work together for Him".
Looking forward to his new charge in Dromara he added: "We believe that God has clearly guided us to Second Dromara and the people of Second Dromara to us. Indeed, we would like to thank the congregation of Second Dromara for their incredible generosity to us already and the great effort they have been making to help us feel at home.
"We would ask people to please pray for us that we will quickly settle into Second Dromara and that God will use us to work together with His people as a team, to encourage one another and point people to Christ".
