THE
story of the ordinary people who helped make Hillsborough what
it is today is to be told in a new book.
				The recently formed Hillsborough Historical
Cultural and Arts Society - also be known as the Old Guard as
many of its founding members are from long established local
families - the public will help by providing pictures and
				stories.
The book aims to mirror the success of As It
Was, which was about Culcavey and which was a huge success when
it was released a few years ago.
Founding member of both groups Jackie
McQuillan said they are looking forward to making a permanent
record of the old photos and stories people have about
				Hillsborough.
"When people saw how successful the book
about Culcavey was I was asked 'What about Hillsborough?'" said
				Mr McQuillan.
"I knew there was a demand so we decided to
form a group with the aim of doing a similar book about
				Hillsborough."
He said they want people who have old
photographs and stories of the past to come forward.
"Hillsborough has a history rich in famous names and important
characters, but the story of the ordinary people who made the
village now needs to be told," he said.
"It is intended to be a tribute to them.
Already there is a wealth of information available to the
project team, but the Old Guard would welcome further
contributions not only from individuals but also from the many
organisations and clubs that are to be found in the town and
				surrounding areas."
Anyone who would like to share memories of
life in the Hillsborough, lend a photograph, tell a story or
indeed contribute in any way should contact either Harry Shortt
on 92-682379 or Pearl Finn on 92-683260.
