LAURELHILL Community College welcomed in spring with a charity concert on behalf of the Shire Urban Primary School and the Kanengo AIDS orphanage in Malawi.

This cause is close to the hearts of all at Laurelhill - especially Deputy Head Derek McClelland who visited the area last summer.

He was amazed at the optimism and positive attitude of the orphans despite their dire circumstances.

Inspired by his visit, the College has made it its aim to aid the orphanage and raise funds through a variety of events throughout the school year. The concert consisted of performances by a number of pupils, including a Year Eight Choir, School Band as well as performances by a number of Year 12 GCSE pupils. The audience was wowed by the talent of the pupils in the College and all those present felt the night was a tremendous success.
