THE Lisburn City campus of the Northern
Ireland Piping and Drumming School recently held its
presentation of certificates at Laurelhill Community College.
Over 90 certificates were presented to 48
pupils covering both practical piping and drumming as well as
the theory of music.
Deputy Mayor of Lisburn, Councillor Ronnie
Crawford, accompanied by his wife, were the guests of honour and
presented the certificates.
Councillor Crawford noted the on-going close
relation-
ship between piping and the City of Lisburn
and said that the City was delighted that the headquarters and
one of the centres of the School was based in Lisburn. He highly
commended the work of the school and its contribution to the
continuing high standard of piping in the province.
Congratulations were due, he said, to all those receiving
certificates which should be highly valued given the excellent
teaching and standards maintained by the school. The Chairman of
the N.I.Branch of the Royal Scottish Pipe Band
Association, Mr. George Ussher together with
the President. Fred Walker were in attendance and both noted the
continuing excellent work of the School.
To mark the 2 8 th Anniversary of the school
a presentation was made to Mr. Colin Brown, one of the founding
members and tutor from the School.
The evening ended with a musical programme by students of the
School involving solo piping by Derek Boyce, Jamie Walker and
Johnathon Lamberton and displays of Scottish dancing by Michelle
Johnston.
