Farewell from the Royal Irish Regimental band

THE Band of the Royal Irish Regiment will bid farewell to the city of Lisburn with a special concert in aid of charity in the Island Hall, Lisburn on Thursday September 13 at 7.45pm.
This will be the final performance of the Band in its present form before it is disbanded as part of the Army's normalisation process in the Province.
The concert will showcase all sections of the Band including the Bugles, Pipes and Drums. The charities to benefit will be the Royal National Institute for the Blind - Simon Dickey Music Project and the RIR Benevolent Fund.
It is being organised by Garvey Silver Band and the chairman, Tom Whyte said: "It is a great honour to be associated with one of the finest bands in the United Kingdom.
"They have achieved the highest standards in musicianship as well as appearance and deserve the highest praise for the work that they have carried out over the years since their formation.
"It is the greatest shame that a Band such as this one will disappear from the music scene in Northern Ireland and indeed further a field."
The concert will take the place of the normal Simon Dickey Memorial Concert this year and will raise much-needed funds for the RNIB.
Garvey Band has given this concert since 2003 after their principal cornet player Simon Dickey was killed in a car crash at the age of 21.
