The Hamilton Police Pipe Band from Ontario, Canada |
THE Ulster Pipe Band Festival kicks off on Friday August 3 with short performances in Lisburn City Centre by two visiting Canadian Pipe Bands, the Hamilton Police from Ontario and the College of Piping from Prince Edward Island at 1pm in Bow Street.
Both of these bands will also give full concert performances on the Friday at 8pm at the Trinity Methodist Church Hall, Knockmore Road, Lisburn.
The full line up of this extravaganza also includes solo piper Ryan Canning of the Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band and a performance by the Ellis School of Highland Dance.
Tickets are available from the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association Northern Ireland Branch Office on 9267 0445 or email info@rspbani.org. Concert tickets are priced at £5 and £3 for a concession ticket.
The beat goes on with pipers and drummers from all across the island of Ireland and not forgetting our Canadian visitors, as they strive to become Ulster Champions. Contests get underway at 11 am at Moira Demesne on Saturday August 4.
Scotland's Tannahill Weavers will bring their dynamic, traditional Celtic music to the Festival Marquee at Moira Demesne on Saturday evening.
The music may be old time Celtic, but the drive and enthusiasm are akin to straight ahead rock and roll.
Admission to the Festival Marquee is free and the performance will commence at 7pm.
