Q&A
DAVID
Convery, studies newspaper journalism at Belfast
Metropolitan College. He graduated a few years ago with a
degree in history from Queen's University and it didn't take
him long to decide that he wanted more than a typical office
job. He has been training at the Star to get an insight into
journalism.
What do you like doing on your day
off?
Ideally a long lie-in followed by a stroll down to the
shop to get the papers. If the weather's good I like to head
to the Mournes for a walk. After that, some pub grub and a
few pints always go down well. Home in time for Match of the
Day so my better half and I can argue over whether I get to
watch it or not.
If you were to choose your favourite
meal what would it be, where and why?
Without a doubt it would be Christmas dinner. Somehow
turkey doesn't taste as good on the other 364 days of the
year.
What has been your proudest moment?
Graduation day.
What was the most frightening moment of
your life?
My first scene as Fagin in my primary school production
of 'Oliver'. Unfortunately for every-one I even had to sing
a few lines.
How would you describe your taste in
clothes?
Fairly mediocre if I'm honest. I tend to give the
expensive stuff a miss, I feel more at home in shops like
Topman and River Island.
What would you do if you won a million
pounds?
Pay off my parents' mortgage and then
blow it all on wine, women and song.
What was your most embarrassing moment?
Too many to recall. Most recently I was walking out of a
bar in Belfast and my trousers fell down
What music do you like?
Fairly varied taste - dance music if I'm out,
alternative or rock if I'm not. Portishead, Massive Attack
and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers are my favourite bands.
What sports person do you most admire?
Roger Federer - I don't think he's ever played a bad
game of tennis in his life.
Describe your best ever holiday. What
would your dream holiday be?
I'd love to walk the Inca trail for the challenge and
the history, and then jet off to the
Maldives to recover.
What is your greatest remaining ambition?
To have a novel published.
If you could spend a day with a celebrity
whom would you choose?
I'd spend the day in bed instead. Not interested in
celebrities.
If you were stranded on a desert island
what three things would you want with you?
A big yacht, a barbecue and a selection of choice cuts from
the butcher
