Joan Cunningham recently resigned, after 22 years, as head of showjumping at Saintfield Show. She was a brilliant ambassador for the Show with vast experience as a showjumping competitor, judge and organiser.
What do you like doing on your day off?
I like to enjoy a days racing at Down Royal.
If you were to choose your favourite meal what would it
be, where and why?
The Portaferry Hotel does great seafood. The clams and lobster are delicious
and I always enjoy the boat journey over form Strangford.
What has been your proudest moment?
When my son was born.
What was the most frightening moment of your life?
When I fell during a jump and the doctors thought I had broken my neck. The
thought of being paralysed was frightening. It was 10 days before I got the
good news that I was ok.
How would you describe your taste in clothes?
I dress conservatively. I like wearing well cut suits and I enjoy dressing
up for the races.
What would you do if you won a million pounds?
I would give money to the Rock Ministries who are building a new orphanage,
school and clinic in Uganda. I'd buy a Ferrari and give some to my family.
What was your most embarrassing moment?
During a hunt ball my halter neck strap on my dress fell down when I was on
the dance floor.
What music do you like?
Country and Western and Westlife.
What sports person do you most I admire?
Nelson Pessoa an excellent horse man from Brazil.
Describe your best ever holiday. What would your dream
holiday be?
I love going to Italy. I like the food and the people and have made many
friends from there over the years. I would like to go on a luxurious cruise
some time.
What is your greatest remaining I ambition?
To do more fundraising work for Rock Ministries and help with their work in
Uganda.
If you could spend a day with a celebrity whom would you
choose?
Robert Redford.
If you were stranded on a desert island what three things
would you want with you?
Food and drink, glucose tablets and a man.
