Olive Fraser is the Chairperson of Lisburn Action Cancer Group. Originally from Bessbrook, she has lived in Lisburn for 32 years since she got married. She has two grown up children and two grandchildren, Hannah and Matthew.
What do you like doing on your day off?
Looking after my grandchildren. Or at weekends we enjoy going to the caravan
at Cranfield
If you were to choose your favourite meal what would it be, where and
why?
Currently I enjoy The Cardin on Bachelors Walk. The food is delicious
and well presented. I like to try different places. The best Chinese I
ever had was in Tenerife in February. Could have dined there every
night.
What has been your proudest moment?
The classic one, when my children were born.
What was the most frightening moment of your life?
When I was diagnosed with breast cancer nearly nine years ago it was
very scary, you think it will never happen to you. Thanks to charities
like Action Cancer more and more cancers are being diagnosed early so
most are very treatable and we have a far greater survival rate.
Thankfully I'm doing well now.
How would you describe your taste in clothes?
Probably smart casual most of the time. I try to keep up with the style.
What would you do if you won a million pounds?
Share it with my children and family. Take several dream holidays. Treat
my friends.
What was your most embarrassing moment?
There have been too many to pick out one.
What music do you like?
I still think 60s and 70s music is the best but I like a wide range of
music.
What sports person do you most admire?
I really admire Mary Peters. She is a great ambassador for Northern
Ireland sport.
Describe your best ever holiday.
Fifteen of us, friends and their
grown up children, went to America for three weeks a few years ago. We
went to Las Vegas, Orlando and Sarasota. It was amazing and everyone got
on so well. I would love to do an Alaskan cruise and the train through
the Rockies. Hopefully I'll get to do it soon.
What is your greatest remaining ambition?
I'd love to learn to play the piano properly.
If you could spend a day with a celebrity whom would you choose?
I would like to spend a day with Gerry Anderson and Sean CoyIe. I think
they are great fun. I find myself laughing out loud when I'm listening to
them on the radio.
If you were stranded on a desert island what three things would you
want with you?
My husband (he's good at lighting fires), music and a box of books.
