Brief history as recorded in a book ‘Lisburn’s Rich Church Heritage’ by John Kelly
Knocknadona Gospel Fellowship was formed in 1930 by the Rev Thomas Rodgers, minister of Magheragall Presbyterian Church. For many years the leaders were Fred Gordon, Billy McCauley and Alderman William Belshaw, Mayor of Lisburn (1981-1983). At one time there was a Sunday School with up to 100 children attending and Mr Rodgers’ son Andrew who attended the Sunday School went on to become a minister and was Moderator of the General Assembly in 1993. Fred Gordon, now in his ninetieth year, attended the Sunday School and is still involved at Knocknadona together with his son Jim, John Thompson who joined in 1970 and Alderman William Belshaw’s wife Maud who is treasurer. Meetings are held on the second floor of Knocknadona Temperance Protestant Hall on the Glenavy Road, Lisburn. The two-storey hall was built in 1903 and refurbished by Knocknadona Temperance LOL 159 in 1985. A gospel meeting is held each Sunday evening and a prayer meeting is held each Thursday evening.
