Presentation of framed photographs in memory of the late George McCandless

The Late George McCandless

Ivor and Ronald McCandless presented three framed photographs to office bearers of Quilly Orange Lodge on Thursday 6th October 2005, in memory of their father, the late Mr. George McCandless from Barban Heights, Dromore, who died in February 1993.

The photographs presented were: A history of Quilly Temperance Flute Band, 1957 - 1978; Quilly Flute Band pictured in new uniforms on Friday 6th June 1969; and Quilly Orange Lodge pictured at the Twelfth Demonstration in Loughbrickland - 2005.

Accepting the framed photographs Wilson Beggs - Worshipful Master spoke appreciatively about the late George McCandless and his exemplary service to both the Band and the Lodges. He recalled George's tremendous work and effort in forming the Flute Band in September 1957 and the difficulty in keeping it together for almost twenty-three years and of the great disappointment he must have felt when it was forced to close in July 1978.

George McCandless's loyal service to Quilly Temperance Flute Band can be seen in an article by former band member John Kelly on the Memories Page of this website, click on, History of Quilly Temperance Flute Band, Dromore, 1957 - 1978
